Monte Generoso campsite is situated on the shore of Lake Lugano near the small town of Melano. The campsite is positioned fairly close to the base of Monte Generoso and so the mountain and all its activities are easily accessible to visitors of the campsite - the summit of Monte Generoso also offers some of the most spectacular views in the area and much of Ticino and Lombardy can be seen from the top. The campsite caters mainly for touring caravans but also has a selection of caravans available to rent if required.
The location of the campsite is such that it offers guests the best of both worlds, as the lake provides water based activities and the wilderness of Monte Generoso beckons to those who like hiking and mountain biking - The summit of the mountain has a variety of walking trails fanning out in various directions while those who prefer their action on two wheels can race along a formidable 30km mountain bike track which takes you to the nearby town of Mendrisio. Facilities at the summit of Monte Generoso also include a fine restaurant, pre-planned educational trails and a magnificent observatory. Tickets for the cogwheel railway which transports visitors to the summit are discounted for guests staying at the campsite below.
Campsite Amenities
Amenities on the campsite are comprehensive and include a small shop, bar, TV room, showers, washing machine and dryers. The campsite is very family oriented and in the high season extra activities are organised for children. There are plenty of bowling, table tennis and 5-a-side football tournaments and for younger ones there is the play area where swings, slides and sandpits are available to enjoy.
Because the cool, clear waters of Lake Lugano are only a stone's throw away from the campsite it means that swimming, canoeing and boating is always on the agenda. The equipment needed for these pursuits are also available to hire as the campsite keeps a stock of boats, canoes and pedalos for this purpose.
The Monte Generoso campsite makes an ideal base from which to explore the area around Lake Lugano or places further afield in Lombardy and Ticino. The fabulous sights of Como are just 25 km away while the fashionable shops of Milan just 50km to the South. Lugano city is a short 10 km drive around the lake while the incredibly popular Foxtown shopping centre in Mendrisio is even closer still at only 8km. Getting There
You can catch the train to Maroggia-Melano or take the ferry boat across the lake from Lugano to Capolago.
